LETTERS FROM THE EDITORS:
In Which We Toot Our Own Horns
By YENNIE CHEUNG

Welcome, sons and lovers,

Welcome to our ninth issue of the Hipster Book Club. If you knocked anyone up during our launch party, she's probably having your lovechild right about now. Just so we're not being sexist about this, if you got knocked up, you could be having a kid right now, too! Anyway…we've gotten off-topic.

Like all smart kids who eat their vegetables, we continue to grow. This has necessitated a couple new editors to ensure the peaks of quality you've come to expect from our team of amateur internet literature reviewers. We'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new copy editors, Stephanie Chao and Heather Willson. Next time you see them at a party, smoothly chatting folks up in the corner and regaling a crowd with tales of being on tour with Daft Punk, bring them a drink and thank them for their fine service to this website. Our original copy editor, Jennifer Hadlock, now holds the position of managing editor because, let's face it, she does way more for us than just proofread reviews. Thanks, Jen. You're awesome.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but we're really excited about next month. December's update is looking to be big. Among other things, we're putting together a gift suggestion list, which requires your input (see the article for details) and, in honor of the holiday season, we're giving away a few 2007 books—some are even autographed! Do you want to win a free book from writers such as Miranda July, Tao Lin, and Nick Hornby? Of course you do. Be sure to check out the details on the giveaway and show up to our December issue wearing your luckiest pair of underwear. Or your luckiest lack of underwear if you're feeling saucy.

As for this issue, we've got plenty for you to enjoy. We've got reviews of new nonfiction from A.J. Jacobs and everyone's favorite NPR-turned-Showtime host, Ira Glass. We also have great new fiction from seasoned novelist Ha Jin and first-time novelist Veronica Gonzalez, and an interview with writer and former Punk Planet journalist Joe Meno.

As always, we thank you from the bottom of our fluttery hearts for always coming back and letting us share with you. Thanks for supporting us by reading this, by telling friends, and by clicking our links to Powell's Books and Amazon.

Thanks for visiting. A winner is you.

<3,

Kyle and Yennie
